Creating Scenery ・ Nature: Chen Jiousi’s Ecological Gongbi Solo Exhibition, 2018

Updated: Nov 10, 2024

2018

The creative inspiration for this series lies in the integration of ecological art and the gongbi technique, deeply exploring thematic elements. During the process of creation, traditional gongbi techniques were employed alongside diverse base materials, such as nihonga pigments, mineral pigments, professional-grade Western watercolors, acrylic paints, primers, fan brushes, scraping pens, and airbrushes. This approach harnessed the unique properties of each medium in combination to depict scenes of water, mist, humidity, dawn and dusk atmospheres. The result is a color foundation distinct from traditional gongbi, embodying the spirit of plein-air painting. This modern gongbi technique, fused with ecological art, portrays Taiwan's rich biodiversity through crafted scenes that blend realism with an ecological vision.
